How did the name Dissonance Dance
Theatre come about?
Dissonance, meaning discord, was how Artistic Director and Founder Shawn Short felt upon entering the Washington, DC Dance Scene in 2005. He did not feel content in any of the dance company styles or missions 100%, so he decided to break away from past modern processes of old and created something fresh that struck a different cord.

Why is Dissonance Dance Theatre
important in the Washington, DC Area?
Our
mission at Dissonance Dance Theatre is to challenge the audience's assumptions
about the human experience through dance. The arts can change a nation
and a community. It is through our commitment to enlightening audience mindsets
and charging them with perceptions that might not be their at times, that
creates wonderful narratives and stories that develop the concept dance
theatre. In addition, DDT puts the audience member first when creating
work. Constantly redefining and polishing for the audience member's
enjoyment.

Dance Theatre is always looking for serious dance artists that train hard and
want to become catalysts for great work! Unless casting for a large project, auditions
are conducted in the fall through dance class, and rehearsal with company
